Preparation Before the Baby Arrives - Miscellaneous |
||
1. Do I need a stroller?
Adjustable strollers that can be adjusted flat for babies to take their
naps may provide more flexibility and mobility to the parents but
babies usually outgrow them very soon. Another option would be a
bassinet initially until the babies are promoted to a partially
reclinable stroller which can last longer. An infant car seat is
mandatory when you are on the move. 2. What toys do I buy?
A newborn’s hearing is better developed than his vision initially,
hence musical toys are good buys. Avoid stuff toys as they are
difficult to keep clean. 3. How to help the siblings to accept the new addition?
Older child may react in a variety of ways in anticipation of a new
sibling who may be seen as a rival for your love. He may show
regressive behavior such as bed wetting or soiling. He may also be
happy to accept the new baby. Parents need to psychologically prepare
the elder child long before the baby is born. Reassure him that he will
still be loved. Try to involve him in the preparation for the new baby
so that he could be made important as a ‘big brother’. Some suggestions
include getting his help to decorate the baby’s room, help him to
prepare little gifts for the new baby and he will also be recipients of
presents too.
