Fruit Puree and Vegetable Mash

You baby needs variety, introduce him to other fruits and vegetables, by pureeing or mashing these different varieties:


Ingredients

- Fruits: Apple, pear, banana, mango, watermelon, kiwi, cantaloupe
- Vegetables: potato, sweet potato, carrot, peas, cauliflower, pumpkin, French beans
- Breast/formula milk or water


Method (Puree)

1. Clean fruit thoroughly under running water.
2. Peel, remove core/seeds and cut into cubes or medium-sized pieces.
3. Steam fruit pieces until soft. If using soft fruit, skip this step.
4. Blend, mash or grate fruit.
5. Mix with breast milk or water to make the puree fruit soft and runny.


Method (Mash Fruits/Vegetables)

1. Clean fruit/vegetables thoroughly under running water.
2. Peel, remove core/seeds and cut into cubes or medium-sized pieces.
3. Steam fruit/vegetables pieces until soft. If using soft fruit, skip this step.
4. Place softened fruit/vegetables in a bowl and mash with a kitchen masher. If you don’t have a masher, use a fork instead.


Tips! for the parents

* Use a separate set of plastic or stainless steel kitchen utensils (eg. blender, sieve) to prepare baby’s food.
* Your ordinary utensils may be rusty or contain traces of adult foods, for example chilli, that are not suitable for baby.
* If buying separate utensils is not practical, make sure all utensils are washed and dried thoroughly before using for baby.
