Milk Nutritional Benefits for Growing Child

You are encouraged to include milk in your child's daily food intake. It is not only a convenient way to help him optimize his nutrition, milk nutrition and milk protein is also essential for his growth.

* As the best source of calcium for growing bones and teeth.
* Calcium also plays many other important roles, e.g. in the regulation of heart beat, muscle contraction and wound healing.
* For high quality protein that is essential for cell development, growth and repair.
* Also for the carbohydrates and fat it contains. Lactose (the carbohydrate in milk) and milk fat are valuable sources of energy that your child needs. Low fat milk or fat-free milk is not encouraged for young children.
* For being a good source of vitamins and minerals. Magnesium, phosphorous and vitamin D in milk help the body utilize calcium more efficiently. There is also vitamin A that ensures healthy vision, skin and immune system.

* Powdered or pasteurized (packet) milk make good choices as both are highly nutritious. However, this does not apply to sweetened condensed and evaporated milk due to their low nutritional value.
* Have the whole family drink milk; your child would not want to be left out.
* Allow your child to select the flavor of his choice.
* Fascinate your child with stories about the power of milk. Knowing what milk can do could make him more willing to drink it.
