Toddlers enjoy making their own snacks,
more so when it comes with kitchen fun. They become confident with
their self-help skills when they get the opportunity to prepare food
for themselves.
Preparing for Kitchen Fun
1. Choose one of your child’s favorite
fruits and squeeze some lemon juice on it. You can either add some
honey or a teaspoon of sugar for taste. Store in a box and refrigerate.
This will be the ‘special’ toppings that he can put on a cream/cheese
cracker or bread.
2. Buy a variety of cream crackers or cheese crackers. Get the ones
that your child can spread topping on it.
3. Keep a loaf of sliced bread handy with some large cookie cutters.
Cut them into different shapes.
4. Choose your child’s favorite dips or spreads. They give an extra
zest to your toppings.
5. To make the yummy snacks, help your child to prepare a spreading
knife, a plate and a chopping board.
6. Once you have placed all the food stuff in a row on the table, your
child will work on making his yummy snacks.
A glass of milk goes well with your child’s yummy snack creations. You
can also talk about the different shapes, colors, smells, taste and
textures of the snacks.
Kitchen For Kids - Preparing Apple Snack
Talk about apples with your toddler. Feel
the outer skin of the apple and compare to the inside of the apple,
talk about the difference in colors and textures. Get him to sniff the
apple and take a small bite.
Tell him the story of Johnny Appleseed, a passionate American pioneer
nurseryman who cared deeply about animals and the nature. He knew all
children love apples. He went all over America with apple seeds in his
pocket and a pot on his head. When he did not use the pot as a hat, he
uses it to cook his meals. He planted apple tress everywhere he went.
Ingredients:
1 fresh apple
Peanut butter
Method:
1. Cut the apple into slices. It would be interesting if you use an
apple cutter. Remind him that he should never use a knife without
supervision.
2. Spread peanut butter on the apple slices and enjoy your apple snack
with him.
3. Let him have his go at spreading the peanut butter too.
