Humor is the best medicine. A laugh a day
makes your child a happy and positive person. Children between ages 4
to 6 years can make up funny tunes and stories. They also enjoy
listening to funny stories. Laughter is believed to help the body
produce chemicals needed for alertness and memory. It is also known to
reduce stress. Children are healthier when they feel good about
themselves. Parents should try to turn humor and wacky games into a fun
and yet educational experiences for their kids. Below are some ideas:
Humor and Wacky Games
1. Sing silly songs together
Use the familiar tunes such as "Baa, baa black sheep" or "Twinkle,
twinkle little star". Encourage your child to put in his own words to
these tunes. sing along with him and enjoy the fun. Laugh out loud to
show your enjoyment.
2. Collect a few odd looking hats and adult clothes. Play dressing up
in funny costumes. You can hold a fashion show for the wackiest dresser
in the family.
3. Read funny story books such as "Moose's loose tooth" by Jacqueline
A. Clarke, "Chimps don't wear glasses" by Laura Numeroff, "Moustache"
by Margie Palatinin and "Naughty Little Monkeys" by Jim Aylesworth.
Enjoy reading together and laugh out loud together.
Funny Tunes
You could make your own funny music with
your sound shakers. Below are what you need:
1. Collect a variety of lids and containers, such as chip tubs, milk
cartons, coffee cans, and plastic drink bottles.
2. Gather items to make sounds, such as gravel, plastic foam pieces,
seeds, buttons, paper clips, bells, coins and small balls.
3. Make your sound shakers by placing the different items that make
sounds into the containers. Use only one type of material for each
bottle/container.
4. Help your child to seal the container before shaking it.
5. Play some music that your child is familiar with.
6. Invite your child to choose one container and experiment with the
sounds by shaking the container in different ways to go with the tempo
of the music.
