Bee, bee follows me
(vision, 0-3 months)
* Sit with your baby in a chair
comfortably. Hold your baby in your arms.
* Point your finger in the air, move a round and make a buzzing sound,
like a ‘bee’.
* Your baby’s eyes will follow the ‘bee’. Land the ‘bee’ on the baby’s
body parts (for example, nose) with a slight tickle. Remember to name
that body part and say “(baby’s name) nose”.
* Repeat this many times with different parts of the body.
* Next, hold the baby’s finger in the air and move his finger around
the same way you moved yours, and land it on your body (for example,
your cheek) this time. Again, remember to name the body part as
“mummy’s cheek”.
* Baby enjoys this very much. At the same time you are also reinforcing
him to recognize his body parts.
The RBW (vision, 0-3 months)
* Your baby is able to discriminate
patterns a week after he is born.
* Sharply contrasting colors and patterns catch their attention most
easily.
* Prepare while poster board into 8”x12” pieces. Draw designs on the
poster board with a wide marker using the colors Red and Black.
* Arrange the designs and pictures around the cot bed your baby to look
at them. Make sure that those white poster boards are out of your
baby’s reach.
* You can also prepare smaller pieces board that you can flash in front
of him when he is alert.
How nice (vision, 0-3 months)
* You baby needs visual stimulation. Wear
a brightly colored (ideally the red, black and white) sock on one of
his feet.
* Move his foot so that he can see the sock.
* When he sees the color, he will get very excited.
* Initially, he sees the color accidentally, but he will later learn to
concentrate on a color for a longer time.
* Change the sock to his other foot, or put socks on both feet.
* Try putting a sock on his hand. You will realize he begins to hold
his hand in front of his eyes and really concentrate on what he is
seeing.
Moving puppet (vision, 0-3 months)
* Put a finger puppet on your index
finger. Move it around as you call out your baby’s name softly.
* Move the puppet up and down, from side to side, and see whether he is
following the movement.
* Slowly move the puppet in a circle and then in zigzag movement.
* Each time that he follows the movement, try a new movement.
