There, I see you (gross
motor skill, 0-3 months)
* Lie back and put your baby on your
tummy. Call his name and raise him slightly to encourage him to lift up
his head to look at you.
* Repeat this over and over again. Praise him each time he lifts his
head a little bit.
* You can also put your baby on his tummy on the floor. Hold a red,
black or white object in front of him to encourage him to lift up his
head. Praise him each time he lifts his head a little.
Exercise Your Baby (gross motor
skill, 0-3 months)
* Put your baby on his back, lift and
lower his arms very gently alternately, then move them in circular
motion.
* Then cup his feet on the palms of your hands and move his feet in and
out, and then in a circular movement.
* As you move the arms and feet in the circular motion, say “Go round
and round the mountain and kiss those little fingers (or toes)” and
kiss each finger (or toe), one by one.
One, Two, One, Two (gross
motor skill, 0-3 months)
* This game will help to tone your baby’s
muscles and help develop his sense of rhythm.
* Put your baby on his back and move his arms and legs gently to the
rhythm of a nursery rhyme.
* Say the words to “round and round and round” as you move his hands or
legs in a circle.
* Say the words to “One, two, one, two” as you move his hands or legs
back and forth.
Kick, kick (gross motor
skill, 0-3 months)
* Babies love to kick and lift their
legs.
* Help your baby practice kicking by placing items at his feet. You can
used, stuffed toys, squeaky toys or even your own hand.
* Place one item at a time at his feet and let him kick the object.
Roll, roll over (gross
motor skill, 0-3 months)
* Your baby will soon realize that
turning over his body is an intentional movement.
* Lay him on his back, sit behind his head and hold a small toy above
his face.
* Try to catch his attention, once you are sure that you have his
attention, move the toy over to one side. Do this slowly and encourage
the baby to grab for the toy. Repeat the same activity on his other
side.
* Give him a gentle push if he has part of his body turned and needs a
little help to roll over.
* The more you play this game with your baby, the faster the baby will
realize that he can turn over by herself.
