Games to Enhance Gross Motor skill Development (6 to 9 Months)

Backstroke Expert (gross motor, 6-9 months)

* Fill your baby’s bath tub with small amount of water just enough to cover his back when he lies down on his back.
* Let him kick his legs in the water but remember to keep your hand on his head so that he won’t get water in his ears.
* Praise him as he kicks his legs.
* This bath game usually delights babies. You can play this game with him just before a bath proper.

Kick Away (gross motor, 6-9 months)

* Lie on the floor or bed next to your baby.
* Put a small napkin on your feet and then kick it off.
* When you kick it off, say “one and two and kick, one and two and kick”
* Now, put the napkin over your baby’s feet and help him kick off the napkin. Remember to praise him if he manages to kick the napkin off himself.

Crawling Together (gross motor, 6-9 months)

* Get down on the floor with your baby and crawl with him around the house. He will find this funny and will most likely crawl with you too.
* Pretend to be a cat or dog and say “meow, meow” or “woof, woof”.
* Try to get him to follow you and get him to ‘chase’ you around a table.
* Crawl backwards and see if he can imitate you.
