I love your touch
(bonding, 3-6 months)
* Babies develop closeness of
relationships thorough their senses. Touch is important as it
stimulates the baby’s brain to release growth hormone. (Study has shown
that premature babies that are gently touched and massaged gain weight
at a faster rate)
* Touch and stroke your baby’s head and say “I love your little head”
* Touch and stroke your baby’s nose and say “I love your nose”
* Continue stroking and touching different parts of your baby’s body
and name the body part each time.
* This kind of loving and intimate interaction will help him feel safe
and secure.
Knocking heads (bonding, 3-6 months)
* Sit your baby in your lap facing you.
* Slowly move your head towards his while saying “boo, boo and knock
head”. On saying “knock head”, gently knock your head against his. If
you say “knock head” a little louder and do the action a little abrupt,
it makes the game even more fun.
* Repeat this over and over again. You can change your voice each time,
using a high tone, and sometimes a low and harsh tone.
* Try whispering the “boo boo” and say “and knock head” in a normal or
slightly louder voice. But be careful not to shout as this might scare
him.
* You can even rub your nose against his after knocking his head. Your
baby will find this amusing and he will laugh.
Bounce along (bonding, 3-6 months)
* Hold your baby on your knees while you
sit on the floor with your legs outstretched.
* Sing or recite this while you are bouncing:
"Bounce along, bounce along, bounce along so happily;
Bounce along, bounce along, bounce along and smile at me;
Hold on tight, we’ll bounce up high,
Hold on tight, you’ll almost fly;
Bounce along, bounce along, bounce along so happily."
* Lift your baby in the air while you say “bounce up high” and “almost
fly”, followed by a big hug.
